A fantastic running opportunity…

… in Nova Scotia!

Here’s the situation: Vicky Bonnell and I [Tom Maher] submitted a registration entry to the Cabot Trail Relay Race (CTRR) in the name of the Regina Road Runners, and were lucky (?) enough to make it through the draw. So, basically, we have secured a spot but we need 17 Saskatchewan runners, brave and true, to fill out the relay team. So far we have three.

The entry is $1500 per team, which works out to about $90 each, and includes a shirt, a medal (I presume), and a steak and lobster post race banquet.

There are 17 legs, varying from comparatively flat to downright mountainous and from 12 to 20 km. It’s all run on the highway, and it’s a stage race i.e. each leg has it’s own start time.

The race this year is May 23/24th.  This is the weekend after the long weekend, which is early this year.

Speaking of the Victoria Day long weekend…..Those who prefer to make a trip of this distance only if they can put another marathon notch in their running shoes (and also those with serious lack of judgement issues) will be heartened to know that the ScotiaBank Halifax Bluenose Marathon is May 17th, so it would be possible to run the Bluenose then be a tourist for a week, then enjoy all the benefits of running a challenging piece of the CTRR.

Currently our entry position is in the name of the Regina Road Runners but we can probably change it to some cutsie team name like Wascana Weirdos, or Gopher Glory – something we can discuss if we get a team together. I mean when we get a team together. And it has to be soon.

There are only two teams entered from west of Ontario – us and a team from Alberta. (oh, and one from Brazil, but that’s east). We have to ensure a strong representation from Western Canada! And we have to beat Alberta.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you want to get in on this (probably) once in a lifetime opportunity!!! We’re planning to have a meeting of interested runners the evening of February 4th in some suitable (i.e. alcohol serving) location.

Looking forward to hearing from you by the end of next week (Jan 31).
