2017 Regina Beach Trail Race Results

** There were a couple of errors in the 5 km results.  Those have been corrected as of July 21.

Thank you to the 65 runners who came out to participate in the Regina Beach Trail Race.

A special thanks to the organizers and volunteers – course marshals, timers and kitchen workers, who kept most of us on track and headed in the right direction.  We had a beautiful day with sunshine and a cooling breeze.  As usual the course was challenging but enjoyable. The pancakes and sausage following the race were great.

2017 Wascana Wander all wrapped up!

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Wascana Wander. It was a fun event and the generous participants made some sizable donations to good charities. I delivered the food to the Regina Food Bank and clothing to Salvation Army. There was 57 pounds of food! And another 39 pounds of clothes! I will take the library donations ($110) this weekend. Thank you!

The Wandering Kids started things off, with 4 kids from age 4 to 12 running a hilly 900 m course very quickly! Thanks to those who helped get the kids event going!

Finisher’s “medal” at Wascana WanderThe adult participants were all challenged to find 8 books on course, with a time limit of 90 minutes. They brought back pages corresponding to their bib number from each book they found. It must have been challenging – no one brought back 8 pages in time! I heard two ran up to 13 km, finding 6 books. Three folks did find 8 books and went out for a second loop, finding one of the two bonus books as well on the second loop.

I have presented the results below with lots of detail. Because there was a time limit, I tried to make it fair to those who returned on time and to those who found more books. A penalty was applied once 90 minutes elapsed and again for every time the person exceeded the average allowable time per book (9 minutes).

23rd Flatlanders Road Race

https://raceroster.com/events/2017/11744/flatlanders-road-race-2017

The Regina Road Runners Club Flatlanders Road Race is an annual event featuring half-marathon, 10km, and 5km distances.  The event starts and finishes on the trace at the Canada Games Athletic Park.  Race day is Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Canada Games Athletic Complex (Douglas Park Track) Assiniboine Avenue starting at 9:30 am.

Package pick-up is at the Canada Games Athletic Complex (Douglas Park Track) on Friday, September 29th from 12:00 noon – 6:00 pm or on race day, 7:30 – 9:00am.

Race start times are staggered to reduce congestion at the start, to bring finishing times closer together, and for safety reasons so that faster 5 km and 10 km runners don’t have to run back against all of the other runners.

The race is run almost completely on the pathway within Wascana Park, with a few short pieces run on roadways within the park.  The course is well marked with arrows and Km signs, as well as course marshals stationed at important intersections.  Water is provided on the course at 5 stations.

Total race entries for all distances combined will be capped at 500 runners for 2017.

The Flatlanders Road Race is an inclusive event for runners of all abilities.  Walkers are welcome in the 5 km and 10 km events.  The Regina Road Runners Club strives to keep registration fee reasonable by making the commemorative t-shirt an option when registering.
