2018 Wascana Wander – May 26

After the first Wascana Wander in 2017, the event is back!

The Wascana Wander is part trail race, part scavenger hunt. There is no set course (other than on the trails at Wascana Trails). It is meant to get you out on the trails, exploring and trying trails you haven’t tried before. Because there is no set course, there is no specific distance either.

The objective will be to explore the area and find several books that have been hidden throughout the area. Each participant will have a number and will have to bring back the corresponding page from each book (don’t worry bibliophiles – the books on course were destined for recycling anyway).

There will also be a kids version of the Wander. For kids, the course will be marked – with a short distance between 500 and 1000 m.

There is an option for runners to do up to 3 loops (with a new number each loop). To enter the second or third loop, the runner must be within the time cut-off and have collected all the pages. The final loop will be dark so runners will be required to carry a headlamp and cell phone, as well as wear reflective gear. The time limits are 105 minutes for loop 1, 75 minutes for loop 2 and 60 minutes for loop 3.

Where: Wascana Trails
When: May 26
Time: Kids event starts at 5:30 PM, everyone else at 6:00 PM. Be there early enough to get your race bib (bib pickup at 5:00 PM)

Registration is online at Race Roster

Cost: The event is $15 for adults and $5 for kids. Members will receive a full cost discount upon completing the registration, but in order to get your bib – all participants are asked to please bring non-perishable food item for the Food Bank, used clothing for Salvation Army or a donation to the Lumsden Library.

There will also be a collection for anyone wishing to donate to the local library.

Prediction Mile 2018 Results

Sunday March 25 2018, 15 runners and walkers gathered at the City of Regina Fieldhouse for the Regina Road Runners Club 2018 Prediction Mile.

The participants ranged from months old to decades old. Art and Vicky Bonnell and Lee Ubell were there to help with timing and keep things ‘running’ smoothly. There was lots of cheering and heckling from those either waiting their turn or having finished their turn.

Tied for best predictions this year were Yvonne Andrews and Mitchell Japp.  Leah and Maryn Japp came in 3rd and 4th.  Tom Maher relinquished his title from last year and settled for 5th.

There was pizza and pop for everyone afterwards.

The Roadrunners AGM followed with 20 attendees.

24th Annual Flatlanders Road Race

https://raceroster.com/events/2018/17455/flatlanders-road-race-2018

The Regina Road Runners Club Flatlanders Road Race is an annual event featuring half-marathon, 10km, and 5km distances.  The event starts and finishes on the trace at the Canada Games Athletic Park.  Race day is Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Canada Games Athletic Complex (Douglas Park Track) Assiniboine Avenue starting at 9:30 am.

NEW this year is the Kids 1 Mile Race starting at 9:00 am before the start of the ½ marathon starting at 9:30 am.

Package pick-up is at the Canada Games Athletic Complex (Douglas Park Track) on Friday, September 28th from 12:00 noon – 6:00 pm or on race day, 7:30 – 9:00am.

Race start times are staggered to reduce congestion at the start, to bring finishing times closer together, and for safety reasons so that faster 5 km and 10 km runners don’t have to run back against all of the other runners.

The race is run almost completely on the pathway within Wascana Park, with a few short pieces run on roadways within the park.  The course is well marked with arrows and Km signs, as well as course marshals stationed at important intersections.  Water is provided on the course at 5 stations.

A portion of the proceeds from the 2018 Flatlanders Road Race will go towards playground structures in North Central Regina in cooperation with Sacred Heart Community School and their School Community Council.
