Prediction Mile 2020

Prediction Mile & Optional Kipchoge Challenge

January 18 at the Sportplex Fieldhouse.

The Prediction Mile will run at 5:30 PM.  Be there by 5:15 to make sure you are ready to go at 5:30.

What is a Prediction Mile? You just have to predict how long it will take you to run one mile on the track and whoever is closest to their prediction, wins! No timing devices allowed though!

Optional Kipchoge challenge for any who are interested Here’s the details:

In 2019, Eliud Kipchoge broke the 2 hour barrier for the marathon in 1:59:40. He currently holds the world record of 2:01:39 (set in 2018 – the sub 2 hour pace isn’t recognized as a marathon record due to the conditions it was completed in). His incredible pace is equivalent to running 200 metres every 34.5 (or 34.0 for the sub 2-hour pace) seconds (for 42.2 km). Our goal is to see if we can manage Eliud’s pace for a short distance.

26th Annual Flatlanders Road Race

https://raceroster.com/events/2020/32455/flatlanders-road-race-2020

Welcome to the 26th edition of the Flatlanders Road Race, hosted by the Regina Road Runners Club. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the 26th edition of the Flatlanders Road Race will be a Virtual Event. A 5 KM, 10 KM, 21.1 KM Half Marathon, 25 KM and a 1 mile Kids event will comprise the 2020 events. You can register as a Runner or Walker in each event.

All participants can complete their race(s) between Sept 26 and Oct 03 2020 and enter their times in Race Roster up to Oct 06 2020. Since the virtual running of events will take place over a week, you could register and run multiple events over the 7 days if you so chose.

Registration Costs: Each event will have a $27 registration fee except the Kid events which will be a $5.

Race Course: Due to the virtual nature of the events, you can complete your event distance on the course of your choosing. Regina Road Runners Club will not require “proof” that the required distance was covered and believe that you will honor your commitment to the event and take pride in your accomplishment.

Medals: In order to have the correct number of medals for all events, we need to order the medals by Sept 01 2020. As such, medals will be provided for all registrants up to Sept 01 2020. For registrants after Sept 01 2020, we will do our best to have enough medals but we cannot guarantee that a medal will be available.

T-Shirts: The race shirt is available as an optional purchase for all events when you register. However for 2020, Kid’s T shirts will not be offered. T shirts will be available for purchase during registration up to Sept 01 2020. After Sept 01 2020, T shirts will no longer be available for purchase.

Results, T Shirts and Medals: The results within your event will be available on line within Race Roster. On Sept 26 2020, we will provide details on how to enter your event time and how to view the event results. We are still working out the logistics regarding pick up of T Shirts and Medals.

Charity: Theo’s Challenge will receive support from the Flatlanders 2020 Event. Theo is a 5 year old boy who suffers from Batten Disease, a rare genetic disease that has impacted many of his physical abilities. Assistance is required to help fund Theo’s treatments that are not covered by health care.

2019 Boot Race Results

The breeze was brisk (I think I saw pets blowing by) but the sun was shining and there was no snow so the race went ahead.   The race course allows spectators to watch most of the race as it unfolds so there was lots of cheering during the heart stopping action.  The race director got lazy this year and limited the number of signs so a couple of runners missed turns but recovered and finished well.

Rob Humphries was left saddened with a large hole in his trophy case after giving up the prize to Marilyn Leask, who won the race handily.  Our only first time Boot Racer ended up in second place.

The race was followed by mini cinnamon buns and drinks as everyone reviewed the highlights of the race and discussed other activities to follow this season.

Pictures to follow.

Registration is now open

Boot Race is a 5 km handicap race. For those who have never run a handicap race, or need a reminder, each runner starts the race based on his/her best 5 km time in the past year. If everyone matched his/her time exactly, everyone would cross the finish line together. BUT, if you can beat your best time, you come across the line just a little bit ahead of everyone else.

Come on out and have some fun.
Watch for others using the pathways.
