2018 Boot Race Results

What an awesome day for a run!  By race time it was 20 degrees, sunny with a slight breeze.  The race followed the usual course from Rick Hansen park and circled A.E. Wilson Park with a full loop of the island.  The crowd (all 3 of them) watched with racing hearts as the race unfolded.  Several unexpected passes mid-race left the timers and finish judges on edge as the group neared the finish line.  It wasn’t quite a photo finish but close enough to be exciting.

This year we had 3 first time Boot racers.  Rob Humphries ended his first ever Boot Race by taking home the coveted trophy.

All the runners did a great job and there was lots of chatting as runners and volunteers enjoyed a snack and a drink while waiting for the official results.  Mary Simrose was sad to give up the trophy but ran a very strong race.2018 Boot Race Collage

2017 Boot Race Results

We had a beautiful day for the race, although wind strength did influence the outcome.  The course started from Rick Hansen park and circled A.E. Wilson Park with a full loop of the island.  This allowed the crowd to watch the race develop and cheer on their favourites.  The timers and finish judges were able to relax as the runners were quite spread out by the finish although no one was able to accurately predict the results.

All the runners did a great job and there was lots of chatting as runners and volunteers enjoyed a snack and a drink while waiting for the official results.  Mary Simrose is the proud owner of the Coveted Boot Race Trophy for the next year, after having missed the podium for the last 5 years.

Thanks to the volunteers who helped setup, tear down and manage the race.

Boot Race course 2015

Rules:

  • Each runner provides their best 5 K time in the past year.
  • (If you have not run a 5K in the last year, give your best estimate)
  • The runner with the highest time starts first with the following runners starting later by the difference between their time and the highest time.
    • For example, Runner #1 best time is 35 minutes, Runner #2 best time is 30 minutes, and Runner #3 best time is 25 minutes. Runner #1 starts at 10:00AM, Runner #2 starts at 10:05AM (35-30=5, thus starting 5 minutes later) and Runner #3 starts at 10:10AM (difference of 10 minutes, thus starting 10 minutes later).

Snacks will be provided for all participants following the race.

In case of extreme weather, the race will be cancelled. If this is the case, check the blog or Facebook one hour prior to the race.

2015 Boot Race Results

We had a beautiful day for the race.  The course started from Rick Hansen park with a short loop that allowed spectators to cheer the runners on as they recrossed the start line within a minute.  There was a full loop of the island which caused the tension in the crowd to build as they could watch the runners catching and passing each other as the race developed.  The timers and finish judges were preparing for a video finish but the pack spread out some before crossing the finish line so a normal photo finish was all that was required.

All the racers did a great job and there was lots of chatting and laughing as runners and volunteers enjoyed a snack and a drink while waiting for the official results.  Doug Leask is the proud owner of the Coveted Boot Race Trophy for the next year.
