2017 Regina Beach Trail Race Results

** There were a couple of errors in the 5 km results.  Those have been corrected as of July 21.

Thank you to the 65 runners who came out to participate in the Regina Beach Trail Race.

A special thanks to the organizers and volunteers – course marshals, timers and kitchen workers, who kept most of us on track and headed in the right direction.  We had a beautiful day with sunshine and a cooling breeze.  As usual the course was challenging but enjoyable. The pancakes and sausage following the race were great.

2017 Boot Race Results

We had a beautiful day for the race, although wind strength did influence the outcome.  The course started from Rick Hansen park and circled A.E. Wilson Park with a full loop of the island.  This allowed the crowd to watch the race develop and cheer on their favourites.  The timers and finish judges were able to relax as the runners were quite spread out by the finish although no one was able to accurately predict the results.

All the runners did a great job and there was lots of chatting as runners and volunteers enjoyed a snack and a drink while waiting for the official results.  Mary Simrose is the proud owner of the Coveted Boot Race Trophy for the next year, after having missed the podium for the last 5 years.

Thanks to the volunteers who helped setup, tear down and manage the race.

2017 Wascana Wander all wrapped up!

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Wascana Wander. It was a fun event and the generous participants made some sizable donations to good charities. I delivered the food to the Regina Food Bank and clothing to Salvation Army. There was 57 pounds of food! And another 39 pounds of clothes! I will take the library donations ($110) this weekend. Thank you!

The Wandering Kids started things off, with 4 kids from age 4 to 12 running a hilly 900 m course very quickly! Thanks to those who helped get the kids event going!

Finisher’s “medal” at Wascana WanderThe adult participants were all challenged to find 8 books on course, with a time limit of 90 minutes. They brought back pages corresponding to their bib number from each book they found. It must have been challenging – no one brought back 8 pages in time! I heard two ran up to 13 km, finding 6 books. Three folks did find 8 books and went out for a second loop, finding one of the two bonus books as well on the second loop.

I have presented the results below with lots of detail. Because there was a time limit, I tried to make it fair to those who returned on time and to those who found more books. A penalty was applied once 90 minutes elapsed and again for every time the person exceeded the average allowable time per book (9 minutes).

Prediction Mile 2017 Results

Saturday 4 February 2017, 12 Regina Road Runners and friends met at the City of Regina Fieldhouse for the Regina Road Runners Club 2017 Prediction Mile.

The runners ranged from 11 years to older-and-wiser. We had walkers and runners participate. Neither group was expert at counting laps. Everyone had lots of fun cheering on their teammates.

Winning this year was Tom Maher. Congratulations, Tom! Also congratulations to Mitchell Japp and Jeannette Taylor in 2nd and 3rd. Honourable mention to Jaime Lavallee for 4th. Doug Hynne and Petra Dueck tied for the third fastest pace overall.

Also of note, there were 3 participants 16 and under. Austin Taylor had the fastest pace overall and was notably only 20 seconds from prediction (7th overall). Alexander Taylor had the second fastest pace overall and came in 11th. Mustafa Aldulaymi was beat his prediction by 4:29 which was incredible as he had based his prediction on last year’s performance — a spectacular improvement!

There was fruit, pizza, and pop for everyone afterwards.
